Director of Music position available for maternity cover starting September 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the music department, ensuring excellence in teaching and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Teacher of Music to deliver a comprehensive and engaging curriculum.
  • Organise and oversee trips, tours, and workshops that enrich students’ musical experiences.
  • Coordinate with visiting music teachers to support the department’s needs.
  • Encourage student participation in all aspects of music, from ensemble work to solo performance.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and support for improvement.
  • Promote the school’s music programme externally through events and outreach.
  • Ensure the department adheres to the school’s academic and cultural standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in music education across all key stages.
  • Proven ability to inspire and engage students in a classroom setting.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Experience in managing and developing a music department.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in coordinating music trips and tours.
  • Background in performing or composing music.
  • Familiarity with music technology and digital resources.
  • Experience in working within an independent or selective school setting.
