Education Welfare Officer job opportunity with a focus on improving student attendance and engagement.

The Opportunity:

As an Education Welfare Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting student attendance and engagement across the Trust. You will work closely with families and school leaders to remove barriers to education and improve outcomes for students through targeted support and statutory intervention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver the Trust’s in-house attendance strategies to improve student attendance and engagement.
  • Conduct targeted family casework to support persistent and severely absent pupils.
  • Implement a “Safeguarding First” approach in all interactions and interventions.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and families to identify and remove barriers to education.
  • Monitor and report on attendance trends and outcomes for students across the Trust.
  • Provide guidance and support to school staff on attendance-related issues and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
  • Work closely with external agencies and support services where appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in education welfare or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory duties and responsibilities related to school attendance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working with families and children in a supportive and safeguarding environment.
  • Ability to conduct casework and manage complex situations with sensitivity and professionalism.

Preferred

  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust or similar educational setting.
  • Experience with safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.
  • Knowledge of the Education Welfare Officer role within the school system.
  • Experience in raising attendance levels for persistent absent pupils.
  • Experience in delivering training or support to school staff on attendance-related matters.
