The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead a well-established department within a high-achieving Catholic boys’ school. This role offers the opportunity to shape the direction of History at all key stages, fostering a love of the subject and securing excellent academic outcomes. The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader with a passion for curriculum design and high-quality teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing History department
  • Deliver a knowledge-rich, academically rigorous curriculum across all key stages
  • Inspire students and colleagues through expert teaching and leadership
  • Foster a love of History and secure outstanding academic outcomes
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the school’s academic and pastoral provision
  • Promote the values and ethos of a Catholic school
  • Support the development of staff and students through professional and pastoral guidance
  • Contribute to the school’s co-curricular programme, particularly in sport and music

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent classroom practice and strong academic background in History
  • Vision and leadership skills to lead a high-performing department
  • Commitment to securing outstanding outcomes for pupils at all key stages
  • Passion for curriculum design and high-quality teaching
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of a Catholic school

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum leadership or departmental management
  • Experience with a “low-tech, high-text” approach to learning
  • Strong record of academic achievement or leadership in a similar role
  • Experience in a co-curricular or extracurricular setting
