The Opportunity:

As an English Examiner, you will play a vital role in ensuring fair and accurate marking of student responses. This flexible, remote role allows you to contribute to the assessment process while enhancing your professional development and earning additional income.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review student responses and apply the mark scheme accurately and consistently.
  • Commit an average of 15 to 20 hours a week to marking during the exam period.
  • Complete marking over approximately one month, adhering to confirmed deadlines and guidelines.
  • Participate in standardisation sessions to ensure consistency in marking.
  • Collaborate with a team of subject specialists and experienced team leaders.
  • Provide feedback and insights that support continuous improvement in assessment practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict quality assurance standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the AQA team throughout the marking process.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • At least three full terms’ teaching experience in English within the last five years.
  • A senior referee who can verify your relevant experience.
  • Availability during standardisation and marking windows for your selected paper.

Preferred

  • A degree, teaching qualification, or equivalent in English or a related field.
  • Experience in standardisation or assessment-related work.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with current English curriculum and assessment practices.
