Functional Literacy and Numeracy Tutor needed in Surbiton with SEN experience.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking experienced Functional Literacy and Numeracy Tutors to support students with special educational needs in the Surbiton area. This role offers flexibility, competitive rates, and the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored literacy and numeracy support to students with SEN
  • Apply the Bright Heart Approach to build trust and confidence in students
  • Develop and implement individual learning plans (ILPs) that address academic and SEMH needs
  • Communicate regularly with parents and education consultants to track progress
  • Attend ongoing training and safeguarding sessions
  • Maintain accurate records and feedback on student progress
  • Travel to assigned locations within the Surbiton area
  • Work independently and collaboratively with other tutors and agencies

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • At least 12 months of relevant tutoring or teaching experience in the UK
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong subject knowledge in literacy and numeracy
  • Current Enhanced DBS certificate (with children’s barred list check)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • 2 relevant professional references and a parent reference

Preferred

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Passion for teaching and working with vulnerable students
  • Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred methods
  • Familiarity with study techniques and transition support for students
