The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to support students with special educational needs in the Epsom Downs area. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through personalized teaching and a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality Functional Skills tuition to students with special educational needs
• Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs and goals
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and provide regular feedback
• Collaborate with parents, schools, and other professionals to support student development
• Follow safeguarding and child protection policies at all times
• Attend training and professional development sessions to enhance teaching practice
• Communicate effectively with students and their families
• Apply the Bright Heart Approach to build trust and confidence in learners

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• At least 12 months of relevant tutoring and/or teaching experience in the UK
• Excellent spoken and written English
• Strong subject knowledge in Functional Skills
• University qualification or currently studying towards one
• A current Enhanced DBS certificate with a check of the children’s barred list
• Experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN)

Preferred

• Experience with the Bright Heart Approach or similar student-centred teaching methods
• Experience with teaching students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
• Experience in delivering in-person tutoring in the Epsom Downs area
• Familiarity with study techniques and life skills development
