The Opportunity:

As the Head Grounds Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and management of the school’s grounds and facilities, ensuring they meet the highest standards. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the school’s sporting and outdoor activities, and maintaining a safe, attractive, and well-kept environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the quality of playing surfaces, hedges, trees, and surrounding areas at the Activity Centre.
  • Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance and renovation schedules to support the transition between sports throughout the year.
  • Ensure all grounds-related activities are carried out within an agreed budget and to the required standards.
  • Oversee the security of the site, including unlocking in the morning and locking up in the evening.
  • Collaborate with the Estates and Facilities Manager to ensure the continued development and improvement of the grounds.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Supervise and manage any necessary grounds staff or contractors.
  • Keep detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and improvements to the grounds.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in grounds management, preferably in an educational or sporting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of grounds maintenance, horticulture, and landscape management.
  • Experience in planning and managing seasonal maintenance and renovation schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driving license and experience of operating grounds maintenance equipment.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a team or supervising contractors.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in grounds management.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of school sports and outdoor activities.
  • Understanding of the importance of mental and physical well-being in a school setting.
