The Opportunity:

As Head of Art and Design, you will lead a dynamic and successful department, shaping the future of Art and Design education. This role offers the chance to inspire students, develop curriculum, and drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Art and Design department.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive and ambitious curriculum across Art, Product Design, Textiles, and Food.
  • Monitor and use data effectively to support student progress and achievement.
  • Promote critical thinking, visual literacy, and creative independence in students.
  • Lead and support a committed team of teachers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Build students’ cultural capital through exposure to diverse artists, ideas, and perspectives.
  • Champion enrichment activities, including exhibitions, trips, and engagement with creative professionals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong subject knowledge in Art and Design, including contemporary practice.
  • Experience teaching Art and Design at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Ability to lead and manage a departmental team effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of assessment objectives and examination requirements for AQA Fine Art and AQA 3D Design.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and leadership roles.
  • Experience teaching AQA Fine Art and AQA 3D Design.
  • Strong track record of student achievement and progression.
  • Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and cultural understanding in education.
