Summary:

Head of Boarding Summer Camp – Lead residential operations and student welfare during the summer programme.

The Opportunity:

As the Head of Boarding Summer Camp, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the welfare and wellbeing of students during the summer programme. This leadership position requires strong organisational skills, a calm decision-making approach, and a passion for student care and development. You will be responsible for managing boarding staff, ensuring a safe and supportive environment, and contributing to the success of the summer programme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the welfare, safeguarding, and daily routines of both day and boarding students.
  • Manage boarding procedures, including sign-in/out, mealtimes, medication, and bedtime routines.
  • Supervise residential mentors and duty staff, ensuring consistent care and support across all shifts.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for emergencies and operational decisions in the absence of the Director.
  • Coordinate with the Director, Nurse, and Residential Mentors to address first aid and health-related issues.
  • Communicate with parents and manage student welfare-related correspondence.
  • Manage room allocations, valuables, and travel arrangements for campers.
  • Support programme coordinators and staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff before and during the summer programme.
  • Assist with health and safety risk assessments and emergency procedures.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a boarding or residential environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to make decisions independently and in high-pressure situations.
  • Commitment to student welfare and safeguarding.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience with health and safety procedures and emergency response.

Preferred

  • Experience in the education or outdoor recreation sector.
  • Curriculum-based teaching or coaching experience.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Boarding or residential leadership qualifications.
  • Experience in managing and leading teams in a summer camp or similar setting.
  • Ability to participate in outdoor and recreational activities.
