The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with autism and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will help them learn, grow, and develop confidence through individualised support and engaging activities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with autism and SEMH needs in a classroom setting
  • Assist in delivering bespoke and accessible learning experiences tailored to individual needs
  • Communicate effectively with non-verbal students using tools such as PECs and PODD
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to support students in managing challenging behaviours
  • Implement autism strategies such as TEACCH and attention autism in daily practice
  • Adapt lessons and activities to meet the diverse needs of students aged 4 to 11
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Provide emotional and social support to students to build self-esteem and confidence

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Previous experience working with students who are autistic
  • Ability to communicate with non-verbal students using alternative communication systems
  • Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour
  • Flexibility to work with students across a wide age range (4 to 11)
  • Creativity in delivering lessons and developing accessible curricula

Preferred

  • Knowledge of autism strategies such as TEACCH and attention autism
  • Experience working in a classroom or educational setting
  • Strong team-player attitude and willingness to support others
  • Passion for helping children learn and grow
