The Opportunity:

As the Head of Design and Technology Department, you will lead and develop the curriculum, drive student progress, and inspire a passion for design and technology. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on student outcomes and shape a forward-thinking department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Design and Technology department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum aligned with the school’s vision and Trust policies.
  • Monitor and support student progress, attainment, and achievement across the subject area.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance pedagogical practices and raise standards of teaching and learning.
  • Manage resources, including staff, budget, and facilities, to support departmental goals and student success.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department.
  • Ensure the delivery of a curriculum that reflects the values of the Co-operative Group and promotes student engagement and achievement.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to align departmental strategies with the school’s overall vision and objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school or educational setting, ideally within a Design and Technology department.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Design and Technology, with the ability to guide curriculum development and teacher training.
  • Experience in raising student achievement and driving improvement in student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to the values of the Co-operative Group, including self-help, equality, and solidarity.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a department within an academy trust or multi-academy trust.
  • Background in curriculum design and pedagogical development.
  • Experience with innovative teaching practices and technology integration.
  • Strong understanding of assessment, progression, and student support strategies.
