The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Design Technology department, ensuring alignment with the school’s educational vision and core principles.
  • Develop and implement a robust, innovative curriculum that supports student creativity, technical skills, and academic success.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning standards, providing professional support and guidance to departmental staff.
  • Promote a culture of professional accountability, integrity, and high standards across all aspects of teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular links and student engagement.
  • Encourage and support student participation in co-curricular activities, including competitions, clubs, and educational visits.
  • Ensure the department maintains a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for all students.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and developments in design technology to enhance the department’s offerings.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior academic role, preferably in Design Technology.
  • Strong subject knowledge and teaching experience in Design Technology at both Key Stage 3 and 4.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery, with a focus on student achievement and progression.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department and managing a team of teachers.
  • Familiarity with modern design technology tools and industry practices.
  • Experience in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, including competitions and educational visits.
  • A passion for innovation and continuous professional development.
