The Opportunity:

The Head of Drama will lead a vibrant and successful department, ensuring a dynamic and creative learning experience for students through both curriculum and co-curricular activities. This role offers the chance to shape the future of drama education and inspire the next generation of performers and artists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Drama Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Organise and direct major school productions, coordinating with multiple departments and managing budgets.
  • Develop and oversee creative and well-resourced schemes of work that inspire intellectual curiosity.
  • Monitor student progress through assessment data and provide targeted support where needed.
  • Promote and manage co-curricular drama activities, including after-school and weekend rehearsals.
  • Ensure the Drama Department's risk assessments are up to date and all safety protocols are followed.
  • Support the development of Drama Scholars through a rich and varied programme.
  • Organise and lead curriculum and enrichment trips, as well as professional workshops for students.
  • Oversee the sourcing of props, costumes, and set design, and manage production logistics.
  • Participate in staff and departmental reviews, contributing to the school’s continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Drama teacher or Head of Drama.
  • Strong subject knowledge at IGCSE and A Level.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
  • Experience in curriculum planning and assessment processes.
  • Strong academic background and reflective approach to teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience in mentoring colleagues or taking on leadership roles.
  • Passion for live theatre and the performing arts.
  • Experience in public performance management and production oversight.
  • Familiarity with drama schools and higher education pathways for students.
