The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead the department in driving academic excellence and fostering a passion for English among students. This role offers the chance to shape a school on a journey of rapid improvement, with a focus on innovation and high-quality learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Implement innovative approaches to curriculum delivery based on contemporary educational research.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and professional development among staff.
  • Support students in achieving their full potential through engaging and challenging lessons.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of English across all key stages.
  • Promote the school’s rich extracurricular programme, including initiatives like the Greenpower racing team and Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
  • Work closely with the Head and other senior leaders to drive school improvement and transformation.
  • Ensure the department aligns with the school’s mission and values, including its Christian ethos.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in English education.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school department.
  • Experience in driving academic improvement and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental transformation or school improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with the Enlighten Learning Trust and its values.
  • Experience with extracurricular programmes and student engagement.
  • Strong track record in professional development and mentoring.
