The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a robust curriculum that promotes student engagement and academic success.
  • Support and mentor English teachers, providing professional development and guidance.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to drive improvement and achievement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to shape school-wide strategies and initiatives.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture, with a strong focus on student behavior and well-being.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular learning and enrichment opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and external regulatory requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong track record in English teaching at secondary level.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school department or similar role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to manage and develop a team of teachers.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school with a strong faith or values-based ethos.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted inspection processes and standards.
  • Experience in leading initiatives to improve student behavior and engagement.
  • Experience with inclusion and differentiated teaching strategies.
