Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead the English department to ensure outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
- Develop and implement a vision for the department aligned with the school's goals and values.
- Oversee the delivery of a wide range of courses, including A Level, GCSE, and Functional Skills in English.
- Support students through targeted interventions, revision programs, and academic support.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to share resources and pedagogical best practices.
- Promote extracurricular learning through the school’s short courses and lunchtime lectures.
- Ensure the department maintains a high standard of performance and meets all academic targets.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teaching staff, supporting their professional development and growth.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with relevant experience in a school or sixth form college setting.
- Proven leadership experience in a departmental or senior role.
- Strong subject knowledge in English, including A Level and GCSE qualifications.
- Experience in delivering high-quality teaching and achieving excellent student outcomes.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a department and managing a team of teachers.
- Familiarity with the Woking Way programme and extracurricular learning initiatives.
- Experience with pastoral care and student support programs.
- Demonstrable experience in mentoring and professional development.
- Strong track record in improving student performance and attainment.
