The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the English department to ensure outstanding teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement a vision for the department aligned with the school's goals and values.
  • Oversee the delivery of a wide range of courses, including A Level, GCSE, and Functional Skills in English.
  • Support students through targeted interventions, revision programs, and academic support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to share resources and pedagogical best practices.
  • Promote extracurricular learning through the school’s short courses and lunchtime lectures.
  • Ensure the department maintains a high standard of performance and meets all academic targets.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to teaching staff, supporting their professional development and growth.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in a school or sixth form college setting.
  • Proven leadership experience in a departmental or senior role.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, including A Level and GCSE qualifications.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality teaching and achieving excellent student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department and managing a team of teachers.
  • Familiarity with the Woking Way programme and extracurricular learning initiatives.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support programs.
  • Demonstrable experience in mentoring and professional development.
  • Strong track record in improving student performance and attainment.
