Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a clear vision for the department aligned with the school’s strategic goals.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of English curriculum across all key stages.
  • Support and mentor staff within the department to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted interventions where needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to promote a shared commitment to excellence and inclusion.
  • Ensure the department complies with all safeguarding and educational standards.
  • Represent the department in meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a school or college.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, with a track record of delivering high-quality teaching.
  • Experience in leading and managing a department with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school within the SEARCH Education Trust or similar multi-academy trust.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Familiarity with the use of digital tools in teaching and learning.
  • Experience in driving staff development and professional growth.
