The Opportunity:

As the Head of Learning Support, you will lead the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and those requiring literacy support. This role offers the chance to shape an inclusive, ambitious learning environment within a school that values high expectations and a rigorous, knowledge-rich curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for SEND, EAL and literacy across the school
  • Lead a committed Learning Support team, ensuring high-quality provision and strong outcomes for pupils
  • Oversee EHCP processes and work closely with external agencies and the Local Authority
  • Drive a whole-school approach to adaptive teaching and inclusive practice
  • Lead and develop the literacy strategy, aligned with a “low-tech, high-text” approach
  • Work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support vulnerable pupils
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and leadership
  • Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and promote best practices

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong experience of SEND provision and classroom practice
  • Secure understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (2015)
  • Experience of leading or coordinating SEND and managing staff
  • Strong leadership, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to high expectations, inclusion, and pupil success
  • NASENCo or NPQ SENCO qualification, or willingness to complete the NPQ SENCO

Preferred

  • Experience in developing and implementing literacy strategies
  • Experience in working with EAL students and supporting their learning
  • Experience in pastoral and safeguarding support for vulnerable pupils
  • Experience in leading or contributing to whole-school improvement initiatives
