The Opportunity:

The Head of PE will lead the development of a dynamic and inclusive sports programme, ensuring that students are physically and mentally healthy, and actively engaged in sport. This role is central to promoting physical education and extracurricular activities that support the school’s mission of holistic development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the PE and sports curriculum for all year groups, ensuring it is engaging and impactful.
  • Introduce and implement a fitness programme for the sixth form to enhance student wellbeing.
  • Expand and manage the after-school sports programme, encouraging participation and skill development.
  • Oversee and lead the Duke of Edinburgh programme with the support of the coordinator.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality PE lessons that align with the school’s values and educational goals.
  • Promote physical education as a vital component of student development and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate PE with wider school initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sports provision and make recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in PE and sports education.
  • Strong leadership and management experience, preferably in a school setting.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver an effective PE curriculum.
  • Commitment to the school’s values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in leading extracurricular activities and sports programmes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading the Duke of Edinburgh programme or similar initiatives.
  • Familiarity with fitness and wellness programmes for secondary students.
  • Experience in working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in physical education.

  • Competitive salary grade: MPS/UPS; TLR 2.2.
