The Opportunity:

As the Head of Performing Arts, you will lead the delivery of drama and music, ensuring high-quality teaching and student engagement. You will play a key role in developing creative learning experiences that inspire and challenge students across key stages 3 and 4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the drama and music departments, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic curriculum that promotes creativity, performance, and student achievement.
  • Organize and oversee extra-curricular activities, including performances, events, and clubs that enrich the student experience.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Arts & Industries faculty to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support staff development through mentoring, training, and leadership opportunities.
  • Monitor student progress and ensure that all learners achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the school’s vision and strategic priorities.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence across the performing arts.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Department or in a senior leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in drama and music with a track record of delivering high-quality teaching.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Experience in developing and leading extracurricular programs and events.
  • Commitment to student achievement and personal development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-academy trust environment.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum development and innovation in the performing arts.
  • Familiarity with NPQs or other leadership development programs.
  • Experience in working with diverse student groups and fostering inclusive learning environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
