The Opportunity:

As the Head of Physics, you will play a key role in leading and developing Physics teaching and learning across all key stages. You will work closely with the Head of Department to ensure the highest standards of education and curriculum delivery. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop Physics teaching and learning across the Science department
  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to improve curriculum delivery and teacher performance
  • Make informed decisions on syllabi and specifications for Physics across key stages
  • Oversee the development of schemes of work and planning to enhance learning outcomes
  • Monitor student progress and teacher performance to ensure consistent high standards
  • Support and lead staff to work collaboratively and improve teaching practices
  • Take responsibility for a Key Stage or specific aspects within a Key Stage as directed
  • Lead curriculum enrichment activities such as Science trips, revision sessions, and university visits
  • Deliver high-quality teaching across the age and ability range in Physics

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a Science department, particularly in Physics
  • Strong subject knowledge in Physics across all key stages
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies
  • Ability to manage and motivate teaching staff effectively
  • Commitment to the school’s mission and values

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with relevant Physics syllabi and specifications
  • Experience in curriculum enrichment and extracurricular activities
  • Postgraduate qualification in Physics or Education
  • Experience in teaching Post-16 students
