The Opportunity:
The Head of Psychology will lead a department dedicated to inspiring a lifelong passion for the subject. This role is central to shaping the curriculum and ensuring academic excellence, from Year 7 through to A Level. The successful candidate will be a passionate educator and an influential leader, committed to promoting a culture of curiosity and intellectual growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Psychology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
- Oversee curriculum development and monitor student progress to maintain academic excellence.
- Foster a supportive and challenging environment that encourages student engagement and enjoyment of Psychology.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to enhance interdisciplinary learning and student outcomes.
- Support the professional development of department staff and promote best practices in teaching and assessment.
- Promote the subject through extra-curricular activities and events.
- Ensure alignment with the school’s academic ethos and values.
- Work closely with the Deputy Head Academic to implement departmental strategies and goals.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a school setting, preferably in a senior academic role.
- Strong classroom teaching experience at all key stages, including A Level.
- In-depth knowledge of the Psychology curriculum and assessment requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and academic leadership.
- Background in educational research or innovation.
- Experience with student mentoring or pastoral care.
- Familiarity with interdisciplinary teaching approaches.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
