The Opportunity:

The Head of Psychology will lead a department dedicated to inspiring a lifelong passion for the subject. This role is central to shaping the curriculum and ensuring academic excellence, from Year 7 through to A Level. The successful candidate will be a passionate educator and an influential leader, committed to promoting a culture of curiosity and intellectual growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Psychology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Oversee curriculum development and monitor student progress to maintain academic excellence.
  • Foster a supportive and challenging environment that encourages student engagement and enjoyment of Psychology.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to enhance interdisciplinary learning and student outcomes.
  • Support the professional development of department staff and promote best practices in teaching and assessment.
  • Promote the subject through extra-curricular activities and events.
  • Ensure alignment with the school’s academic ethos and values.
  • Work closely with the Deputy Head Academic to implement departmental strategies and goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a school setting, preferably in a senior academic role.
  • Strong classroom teaching experience at all key stages, including A Level.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Psychology curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and academic leadership.
  • Background in educational research or innovation.
  • Experience with student mentoring or pastoral care.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary teaching approaches.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
