The Opportunity:

The Head of RE will provide leadership and vision for the department, driving excellence in teaching and learning. This is a key role for someone passionate about RE and committed to inspiring both students and colleagues. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the curriculum and raising standards across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional leadership and management for the RE Department.
  • Model excellent teaching practices and lead the development of an innovative and engaging curriculum.
  • Raise standards in teaching and learning to improve student outcomes.
  • Support and mentor colleagues to enhance departmental performance.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents to promote the school’s Christian ethos.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of RE at KS3 and KS4 in line with examination specifications.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student engagement and achievement.
  • Contribute to the school’s overall vision and values through curriculum leadership.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong knowledge of RE and its examination specifications.
  • Experience teaching RE at KS3 and KS4.
  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience working with students aged 11-16.
  • Demonstrated personal resilience and a commitment to the school’s values.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Leadership in a multi-academy trust or similar environment.
  • Experience with safeguarding and pastoral care.
  • Previous experience in school management or senior leadership roles.
  • Familiarity with CPD and staff development initiatives.
