The Opportunity:

As the Head of School, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the institution, ensuring that it operates efficiently and effectively in line with its mission and values. This is a key leadership role that shapes the future of education and student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the school site.
  • Ensure the school environment meets curriculum and health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Headteacher to manage the school’s budget and resources.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans and policies based on evidence and data.
  • Recruit, retain, and deploy staff effectively to achieve the school’s vision and goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the use of resources to improve educational quality and value for money.
  • Support and challenge staff, managing under-performance while providing necessary support.
  • Implement appraisal policies and other management systems.
  • Promote high-quality teaching and learning across all subjects.
  • Develop and deliver a diverse and flexible curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Monitor classroom practice and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Ensure the school’s assessment system is effective and provides useful insights for teachers.
  • Identify patterns of under-performance and support targeted interventions.
  • Deliver professional development opportunities for all staff.
  • Support succession planning and staff progression.
  • Implement strategies to maintain high standards of behaviour and attendance.
  • Coordinate submission of reports for student review meetings.
  • Communicate the school’s vision and values effectively across all levels of the institution.
  • Attend governing body meetings and provide professional advice on the school’s progress.
  • Collaborate with other schools and contribute to the development of the education system.
  • Attend and lead EHC Plan Reviews in partnership with external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a school or similar educational institution.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective policies and improvement plans.
  • Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
  • In-depth knowledge of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop middle leaders and support staff performance.
  • Commitment to promoting high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment systems.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate school-wide initiatives and reporting processes.

Preferred

  • Experience in working with students with learning difficulties.
  • Familiarity with vocational education frameworks such as AQA and ASDAN.
  • Experience in leading school improvement strategies and self-evaluation processes.
  • Experience in working with external stakeholders and in EHC Plan Reviews.
  • Knowledge of educational leadership and management best practices.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £55,000 to £70,000.
  • Full-time position with 42 weeks of work (40 hours per week).
