The Opportunity:
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. You will work closely with teachers to help students achieve their full potential, while promoting independence, self-esteem, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support class teachers in raising the learning and attainment of pupils
- Promote pupils’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion
- Provide individual or group support to help pupils access the curriculum and experience achievement
- Assist with planning, preparation, and resourcing for lessons
- Use effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Observe and report on pupil performance to class teachers
- Supervise classes when the teacher is unavailable
- Use ICT to enhance pupil learning
- Support with playground supervision, homework clubs, and educational visits
- Contribute to whole-school policies and strategies
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage behaviour in line with school policies
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
- Basic ICT skills
- Willingness to undergo child protection screening and DBS checks
Preferred
- Experience in teaching or supporting learning in key stages 2, 3, and 4
- Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies
- Experience with vocational learning platforms such as AQA and ASDAN
- Experience in planning and preparing learning activities
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
