The Opportunity:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities. You will work closely with teachers to help students achieve their full potential, while promoting independence, self-esteem, and inclusion in all aspects of school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support class teachers in raising the learning and attainment of pupils
  • Promote pupils’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion
  • Provide individual or group support to help pupils access the curriculum and experience achievement
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and resourcing for lessons
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
  • Observe and report on pupil performance to class teachers
  • Supervise classes when the teacher is unavailable
  • Use ICT to enhance pupil learning
  • Support with playground supervision, homework clubs, and educational visits
  • Contribute to whole-school policies and strategies

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage behaviour in line with school policies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
  • Basic ICT skills
  • Willingness to undergo child protection screening and DBS checks

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or supporting learning in key stages 2, 3, and 4
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies
  • Experience with vocational learning platforms such as AQA and ASDAN
  • Experience in planning and preparing learning activities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
