Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a committed team of science teachers, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an engaging and interconnected KS3 science curriculum.
  • Support colleagues in professional development and the continuous improvement of pedagogical practice.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the science department.
  • Ensure the effective use of resources and facilities, including well-equipped laboratories and science technicians.
  • Encourage student participation in extracurricular science activities and events.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that all learners achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in science teaching and a strong subject specialism in biology, chemistry, or physics.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, either in a formal leadership role or through effective team management.
  • Strong understanding of science curriculum design and delivery at KS3 level.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and aspirational learning culture.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with the GCSE curriculum and experience in preparing students for high-level science qualifications.
  • Experience in developing and delivering innovative science programmes and extracurricular opportunities.
  • Knowledge of best practice in science education and a passion for inspiring young people.
