The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Head of Science Department to lead and inspire a team of teachers. This role is central to delivering a high-quality, engaging curriculum that supports student achievement and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement an innovative and engaging curriculum for key stages 3 and 4.
  • Support and mentor Science staff to enhance teaching practices and student outcomes.
  • Monitor and assess student progress to inform planning and improve learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a well-rounded and inclusive curriculum.
  • Engage with parents and the wider community to promote Science education.
  • Organise and lead enrichment activities that enhance student learning.
  • Utilise ICT effectively to support student engagement and learning outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching Science at key stages 3 and 4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery.
  • Ability to manage and lead a department effectively.
  • Excellent classroom management and assessment skills.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team.
  • Familiarity with assessment for learning strategies.
  • Experience in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Involvement in extra-curricular Science activities or events.
