The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Deliver a curriculum that is imaginative, innovative, and aligned with the school’s values and academic standards.
  • Foster a culture of professional development and continuous improvement among science staff.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate science with other subjects and co-curricular activities.
  • Support and mentor junior science staff, promoting a collaborative and inclusive working environment.
  • Ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
  • Work closely with parents and the wider school community to promote science education and engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring all pupils are challenged and supported effectively.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a science department in a school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in science, with the ability to deliver engaging and innovative lessons.
  • Experience in curriculum development and the ability to align teaching with educational standards.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to work in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school that values innovation and technology in education.
  • Familiarity with the Apple Distinguished School framework or similar educational initiatives.
  • Experience in developing and leading extracurricular science programs or clubs.
  • A track record of fostering a collaborative and supportive teaching environment.
