The Opportunity:

As Head of Science, you will lead the strategic direction and day-to-day excellence of the Science Department. You will champion an inspiring, forward-thinking Science curriculum from KS3 to KS5, ensuring every pupil is challenged, motivated, and supported to achieve their full potential. This is a permanent, full-time role with a start date in August 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Science Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Champion an innovative Science curriculum that engages and challenges students across all key stages.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Head and other school leaders to drive excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Support the development of STEAM provision across the wider school community.
  • Continue to teach your specialist subject, modelling best practice and inspiring students.
  • Contribute to a vibrant programme of trips, enrichment opportunities, and whole-school initiatives.
  • Mentor and support Science staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Science education and implement effective teaching strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a Science department at a senior level.
  • Strong subject expertise in Science with a commitment to inspiring students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated success in driving academic progress and raising standards.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop a team effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation in Science education.
  • Background in STEAM and cross-curricular collaboration.
  • Experience in leading whole-school initiatives or extracurricular programmes.
  • Familiarity with international education standards and practices.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
