The Opportunity:
As Head of Science on a maternity cover basis, you will lead and inspire the science department, driving academic excellence and fostering a culture of innovation. This role offers a unique chance to make a meaningful impact within a supportive and forward-thinking school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire the science department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a broad, balanced, and differentiated science curriculum aligned with academy policies.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring measurable contributions to academy-wide targets.
- Create and execute a Subject Improvement Plan in collaboration with science staff.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to science colleagues to enhance teaching and learning.
- Oversee the mentoring and development of ITT students and NQTs within the department.
- Coordinate the Academy Literacy Programme alongside the Assistant Principal.
- Ensure effective communication with parents and stakeholders.
- Promote the use of ICT as a tool for learning and engagement.
- Model best practice in teaching and learning through classroom practice and lesson observations.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in leading a science department within a secondary school setting.
- Strong knowledge of science curriculum development and delivery across all key stages.
- Ability to manage and mentor teaching staff effectively.
- Experience in implementing and monitoring subject improvement plans.
- Commitment to promoting high standards of teaching and learning.
- Familiarity with the Teachers’ Standards and School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
Preferred
- Experience in leading curriculum development and innovation.
- Experience with school improvement planning and evaluation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in supporting ITT students and NQTs.
- Experience in working with SEN staff and support teams.
