Summary:

Head of SEND to lead inclusion and support for students with special educational needs and disabilities.

The Opportunity:

As Head of SEND, you will lead the delivery of high-quality education and support for students aged 16–19 with special educational needs and disabilities. You will play a key role in ensuring these students achieve academic, vocational, and personal success, preparing them for adulthood in a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to support students with special educational needs and disabilities across the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum team to ensure high-quality teaching and learning that meets the needs of all students.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff on inclusive practices and SEND policy.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring outcomes are met and adjustments are made as needed.
  • Work closely with external agencies and parents to support students’ educational and personal development.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, mutual respect, and inclusion across the school.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and safeguarding policies related to students with special educational needs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing professional development of staff and the school’s strategic goals.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, ideally in a senior role.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND policy and legislation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Preferred

  • Experience as a SENCO or in a similar senior role.
  • Experience with vocational and academic pathways for students with SEND.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted standards and inspection processes.
  • Experience in professional development and staff training.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and technologies.
