Head of SEND to lead inclusion and support for students with special educational needs at a leading institution.

The Opportunity:

As Head of SEND, you will lead the strategic development of inclusive practices, ensuring students with special educational needs receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally. This role is central to the school’s mission of excellence and inclusion, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of education for vulnerable students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and strategies to support students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Collaborate with the curriculum team to deliver high-quality teaching and learning tailored to the needs of SEND students.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of students with SEND, ensuring they achieve their academic, vocational, and personal outcomes.
  • Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment that promotes mutual respect and high expectations.
  • Work closely with external agencies, parents, and carers to ensure holistic support for students.
  • Provide professional development and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching practices.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and safeguarding responsibilities related to SEND students.
  • Promote the school’s values and vision for inclusion across all areas of the institution.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably in a SENCO or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of inclusion, SEN policy, and legislation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering support strategies for students with a range of needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.

Preferred

  • Experience in a college or sixth-form setting.
  • Familiarity with assessment and intervention strategies for students with complex needs.
  • Experience in leading professional development for staff on SEND-related topics.
  • Experience with curriculum planning for students with special educational needs.
