The Opportunity:
As the Head of Social Sciences, you will lead a successful department and deliver a full timetable at Key Stage 5. This role is central to the continued growth and development of the Social Sciences department, which plays a vital role in shaping confident, critical thinkers and responsible citizens.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Social Sciences department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
- Deliver a full timetable of lessons in line with agreed Schemes of Work.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and engagement.
- Support the continued growth of the department through curriculum development and staff training.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the school’s academic and pastoral provision.
- Encourage student participation in extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities.
- Promote the values of the school, including critical thinking, empathy, and inclusivity.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in Social Sciences at Key Stage 5.
- Proven leadership experience in a departmental role.
- Strong subject knowledge in Sociology, Criminology, and Psychology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a team and deliver high standards of teaching and learning.
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
- Experience with A-level teaching and assessment.
- Familiarity with inclusive education practices.
- Experience in leading departmental initiatives and improvement strategies.
- Strong record of student engagement and achievement.
