The Opportunity:
The Head of Spanish Department will lead and develop the Spanish curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. This role offers the opportunity to shape the educational experience of students and influence departmental strategy and improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Spanish curriculum for a key stage, ensuring alignment with school and national standards
- Provide leadership and direction to the Spanish department, including line management of a colleague
- Contribute to decision-making processes at departmental and Middle Leaders meetings
- Support the implementation of the school’s curriculum and national requirements in Spanish
- Monitor and improve the quality of teaching and learning in the department
- Ensure students are prepared for public examinations and support any curriculum changes
- Foster professional development and support for subject staff and early career teachers
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student progress and achievement
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in Spanish education
- Proven leadership experience within a school department
- Strong understanding of the National Curriculum and school-specific curriculum requirements
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies
- Ability to manage and support a team of teachers
Preferred
- Experience in leading departmental improvement planning
- Knowledge of whole school reading strategies and literacy initiatives
- Experience with cross-curricular planning and integration
- Familiarity with student progress monitoring systems
- Experience in supporting early career teachers and trainees
