The Opportunity:

As the Head of Sport and Public Services, you will lead a vibrant and successful department that delivers high-quality vocational qualifications to over 300 students. This role offers the chance to shape the curriculum, drive innovation, and make a real impact on student outcomes and experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead curriculum planning, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across the department.
  • Deliver outstanding teaching and support for a range of vocational qualifications, including Extended Diplomas and Certificates.
  • Collaborate with pastoral and support teams to ensure student success and well-being.
  • Promote student involvement through enrichment activities, sporting events, and employability programmes.
  • Uphold high standards in safeguarding, behaviour, and student progress monitoring.
  • Support staff development and share best practices across the team.
  • Manage relationships with external partners, including awarding bodies and local institutions.
  • Oversee the delivery of sporting enrichment opportunities, including college teams and elite athlete support programmes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven teaching experience, preferably within the 16–19 age range.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Commitment to innovation, inclusion, and high standards.
  • Ability to motivate students and staff and adapt to new challenges.
  • Passion for education and the ethos of a diverse, supportive learning environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a large and dynamic department.
  • Familiarity with vocational qualifications and awarding bodies such as Pearson and NCFE.
  • Experience in developing and delivering enrichment and employability programmes.
  • Background in sports coaching or leadership within a sporting context.
