The Opportunity:

As a Head of Year, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the pastoral development of students across key stages. This is a leadership position that demands a high level of commitment, innovation, and a deep understanding of student welfare and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a team of form tutors and pastoral staff to ensure high standards of care and guidance.
  • Develop and implement effective pastoral systems that promote positive student behaviour and attitudes.
  • Foster student academic progress and achievement while supporting their social and emotional development.
  • Promote and embed the school’s values of bravery, excellence, self-discipline, and teamwork.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure consistency in pastoral care and student support.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development for pastoral staff.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to enhance student outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Significant teaching experience across all key stages.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a pastoral team effectively.
  • Strong understanding of student behaviour management and character education.
  • Commitment to supporting student academic and personal development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading pastoral systems and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of character education and student welfare strategies.
  • Experience with pastoral leadership in a large secondary school setting.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted standards and school improvement processes.
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations.
