The Opportunity:
As a Head of Year, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the personal and academic development of students in a disadvantaged community. This is a leadership position that demands a high level of commitment, organisational skill, and a passion for pastoral care. You will be instrumental in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a year group, ensuring the welfare and academic progress of all students.
- Develop and implement strategies to support student behaviour, attendance, and engagement.
- Work closely with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to address student needs.
- Deliver effective pastoral care and guidance to students, including one-to-one support and group sessions.
- Organise and lead assemblies, meetings, and events that promote school values and leadership development.
- Monitor and report on student progress, identifying and addressing areas for improvement.
- Maintain strong communication with parents and carers to support student success.
- Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and high achievement across the school community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at grade 9-4/A*-C.
- Experience of working with young people in an education setting.
- Experience of providing pastoral support within an education setting.
- The ability to maintain positive relationships with students and other adults.
- The ability to speak in front of large groups of students and small groups of staff.
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership or management role within education.
- Knowledge of leadership programmes and character development initiatives.
- Experience of working in a school with a strong leadership specialism.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
