The Opportunity:
As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of students and staff. This position requires a proactive, empathetic individual who can provide first aid, manage medications, and support students with chronic health conditions. Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medication in accordance with school protocols and under the supervision of the nurse.
- Provide first aid and care for students until they can return to lessons or be passed to parents, guardians, or medical professionals.
- Support students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy.
- Assist with mental health support in the absence of the dedicated mental health support worker.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, both electronic and paper-based.
- Prepare and manage first aid and medical supplies for school trips and events.
- Collaborate with the Student Support team and respond to calls and emails from staff, parents, and professionals.
- Attend training courses related to complex health conditions.
- Triage and refer students to appropriate support services when necessary.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience working with young people in a pastoral or medical setting.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and take on medical responsibility in the absence of the school nurse.
- High level of confidentiality and integrity.
- Experience in administering first aid and managing medications.
Preferred
- Experience with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy.
- Previous experience in a school or healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and GDPR.
- Experience with record-keeping and administrative tasks.
