The Opportunity:
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning activities, assisting qualified teachers, and taking on whole-class teaching responsibilities. Key Responsibilities:
- Support and assist the allocated qualified teacher in delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
- Take on whole-class teaching responsibilities in the absence of the class teacher.
- Deliver lessons and activities in line with the school’s pedagogical approaches, including TEACCH structure and PMLD strategies.
- Monitor and support pupil progress, ensuring that learning outcomes are met and EHC plans are followed effectively.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to support pupil development and well-being.
- Maintain accurate records and complete necessary paperwork using ICT tools.
- Ensure the safeguarding and health and safety of pupils at all times.
- Contribute to the school’s commitment to inclusion and continuous improvement through staff training and development.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Recent experience of teaching a whole class under guidance.
- Minimum of two academic years of experience working with pupils with ASC, SLD, and/or PMLD, using TEACCH structure and PMLD pedagogy.
- Relevant qualifications equivalent to Level 3 (or equivalent experience of at least 12 months of leading a class group).
- Minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (5 GCSEs, including Maths and English).
- Good knowledge of EHC plans and their role in supporting pupil progress.
- Familiarity with the school’s behaviour policy and procedures.
- Ability to take responsibility for pupil safeguarding and health and safety.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with colleagues, parents, and professionals.
- Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver effective lessons and activities.
Preferred
- Prior experience of instructing or cover supervisory work.
- Experience in directing and motivating a class team.
- Completion or willingness to complete a Level 3 qualification and Level 4 Certificate in Education.
