The Opportunity:

As a Humanities Lead Practitioner and Second in Charge, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction and success of the Humanities department. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Humanities department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Support the Head of Department in developing and implementing departmental strategies and initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and professional guidance to colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee curriculum development and ensure alignment with school-wide educational goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, identifying and addressing areas for development.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external partners to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Represent the department in meetings, inspections, and external events.
  • Contribute to the leadership and management of the school, working closely with senior staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a teaching or leadership role within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Humanities, with the ability to lead and develop the curriculum.
  • Experience in managing a department and supporting staff development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Commitment to student welfare and academic achievement.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Lead Practitioner or Second in Charge role.
  • Familiarity with working in a multi-academy trust or collaborative educational environment.
  • Experience with curriculum innovation and enrichment activities.
  • Leadership training or experience in educational leadership.
