The Opportunity:
As an Inclusion Teacher - Alternative Pathways, you will create a nurturing and safe learning environment for children with additional needs, supporting them to thrive at their own pace. You will lead a team of learning support assistants and deliver a functional, hands-on approach to education, aligned with the National Curriculum and ASDAN.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a classroom with children who have additional needs, using a variety of communication and regulation strategies.
- Develop and implement individualised learning targets and functional teaching approaches.
- Lead and support two learning support assistants in delivering high-quality education.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including therapists and SENCO, to support student progress.
- Create and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in partnership with relevant professionals.
- Deliver engaging and creative learning activities tailored to students' needs.
- Track and assess student progress using SCERTS and B-Squared frameworks.
- Liaise with parents, teachers, and other school staff to ensure consistent support for students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Needs Education or a relevant field.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of special needs classroom teaching experience (ASD/SEMH).
- Experience working in secondary settings.
- Ability to adapt curriculums to meet individual student needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of strategies to support students with social, emotional, and communication challenges.
- Experience with behaviour management and the root causes of challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge of teaching the National Curriculum using a hands-on and functional approach.
Preferred
- Experience with Makaton.
- Commitment to inclusive education and a passion for SEND and Inclusive practice.
- Demonstrable ability to motivate and engage children and adults.
- A “Can do” attitude and a passion for continuous professional development.
