The Opportunity:
As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the Science Department by ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of laboratory activities. This is a varied and impactful role that requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to student safety and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure they are in working order and available for use.
- Prepare and conduct experiments in line with curriculum requirements and safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including CLEAPSS guidelines.
- Assist in the supervision of students during laboratory sessions, promoting a safe and productive learning environment.
- Support the teaching team by providing technical assistance and resources for science lessons.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory usage, inventory, and safety inspections.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement best practices for laboratory management.
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities to enhance laboratory skills and knowledge.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A relevant science background with experience in a laboratory setting.
- Previous experience in handling chemicals and scientific equipment.
- Strong understanding of laboratory Health & Safety protocols, including CLEAPSS.
- Commitment to the safeguarding and protection of children and young people.
- Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team within a busy school environment.
Preferred
- Experience in an educational setting, particularly within a school science department.
- Familiarity with curriculum planning and delivery in science subjects.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and reflectively in a team-based environment.
