The Opportunity:

As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the Science Department by ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of laboratory activities. This is a varied and impactful role that requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to student safety and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure they are in working order and available for use.
  • Prepare and conduct experiments in line with curriculum requirements and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Assist in the supervision of students during laboratory sessions, promoting a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Support the teaching team by providing technical assistance and resources for science lessons.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory usage, inventory, and safety inspections.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement best practices for laboratory management.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to enhance laboratory skills and knowledge.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant science background with experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Previous experience in handling chemicals and scientific equipment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory Health & Safety protocols, including CLEAPSS.
  • Commitment to the safeguarding and protection of children and young people.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team within a busy school environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in an educational setting, particularly within a school science department.
  • Familiarity with curriculum planning and delivery in science subjects.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and reflectively in a team-based environment.
