The Opportunity:

As a Lead Practitioner in English, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a school-wide literacy strategy that enhances teaching and learning across all subjects. This is an opportunity to influence and support colleagues, driving improvements in literacy outcomes for all students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a coherent, ambitious literacy strategy across the school.
  • Model excellent teaching practice and support colleagues through coaching and professional development.
  • Work closely with senior leaders and the Head of English to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Ensure consistent application of high-quality literacy strategies in every classroom and subject.
  • Focus on supporting disadvantaged students and those with SEND to access the full curriculum.
  • Lead and inspire a team of teachers to raise standards in literacy and communication.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of literacy initiatives on student achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to embed literacy in all areas of the curriculum.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a highly effective classroom practitioner in English.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of literacy development and curriculum design.
  • Experience in driving improvement in teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Ability to support and develop colleagues through coaching and professional development.
  • Commitment to raising standards for all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with SEND.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading or contributing to whole school literacy strategies.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar.
  • Familiarity with the Haberdashers’ Academies Trust and its values.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working within a multi-academy trust environment.
