The Opportunity:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with autism and complex needs in a range of classroom settings. You will work closely with teachers and contribute to the overall success and well-being of students, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of learning activities as directed by classroom teachers and senior leadership.
  • Understand and support the diverse developmental needs of students, including physical, intellectual, emotional, and social aspects.
  • Use ICT effectively to enhance teaching and management support.
  • Encourage and motivate students to build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Assist in the marking of work and record student progress accurately.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that values students' experiences and knowledge.
  • Stay up to date with the school’s policies, including Health and Safety and Child Protection.
  • Ensure compliance with the SEN Code of Practice and other relevant guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience working with students with autism and special educational needs.
  • Understanding of child development and how it affects learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use ICT for classroom support.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Experience in marking and recording student progress.
  • Familiarity with autism-specific teaching strategies.
