The Opportunity:

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be the first point of contact for students seeking mental health support. You will play a key role in triaging referrals, providing information, and ensuring students are directed to the right services. This is a vital role in supporting student wellbeing and the smooth operation of mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the triage service for students who self-refer or are referred to the Mental Health & Wellbeing Service
  • Ensure referrals are triaged promptly and directed to appropriate internal or external services
  • Support the Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager with operational delivery of services
  • Provide information, resources, and signposting to staff and students
  • Track and monitor service take-up and report findings
  • Work with the Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager and external agencies to organise mental health awareness events
  • Contribute to college-wide responsibilities including safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and continuous improvement
  • Assist with additional duties as required, including working across different college sites

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified in mental health or a relevant related field
  • Experienced in mental health work or other support-based roles
  • Knowledgeable about adolescent and adult mental health service delivery
  • Able to conduct needs and risk assessments and apply safeguarding principles
  • Strong listener with the ability to identify key information and complete assessments efficiently
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication, with confident use of IT systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases
  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and able to manage a busy workload
  • Knowledgeable about GDPR and confidentiality requirements
  • Committed to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice within a wellbeing context

Preferred

  • Experience with mental health awareness events or community outreach
  • Experience in a college or educational setting
  • Experience with safeguarding and student welfare procedures
  • Experience with continuous improvement or quality assurance processes
