About the School:

A small, specialist primary school in Bexley, providing a nurturing environment for children aged 5–11 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school is rated Good by Ofsted, with Outstanding recognition for Behaviour and Attitudes.

The Opportunity:

The Operational Behaviour Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership for behaviour across the school, ensuring a consistent, trauma-informed approach that enables pupils with SEMH needs to engage positively in learning. This is a key role in shaping the school’s behaviour strategy and supporting staff to manage challenging behaviour effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of the school’s behaviour strategy, ensuring alignment with the school’s SEMH ethos and trauma-informed practice.
  • Oversee the collection, monitoring and analysis of behaviour data, including incidents, patterns, triggers, exclusion data and intervention outcomes.
  • Provide in-class support, coaching and modelling to staff to strengthen behaviour management practice.
  • Champion a trauma-informed, attachment-aware approach to behaviour across the school.
  • Act as a key point of contact for parents/carers regarding behaviour concerns and progress.
  • Line manage and support a team of Behaviour Learning Mentors, ensuring clarity of roles and expectations.
  • Design, implement and oversee targeted behaviour and emotional regulation interventions.
  • Act as Team Teach Tutor/Lead for the school and deliver Team Teach training and refreshers to staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Experience in behaviour management within a specialist school setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches to behaviour support.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret behaviour data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, staff, parents and external professionals.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading or mentoring behaviour support teams.
  • Experience with Team Teach or physical intervention training.
  • Experience in developing and implementing behaviour improvement strategies.
  • Experience in working with children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
