The Opportunity:

As a Senior Attendance Officer, you will lead efforts to improve and sustain high attendance rates across the academy. You will play a critical role in ensuring that students can fully access learning and feel a strong sense of belonging. This is a key leadership position within the Inclusion and Safeguarding Team, with a direct impact on student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and embed the academy’s attendance policy with consistency and high expectations
  • Drive attendance improvement through targeted interventions, home visits, and multi-agency collaboration
  • Analyse attendance data to identify trends, inform strategy, and measure impact
  • Conduct supportive but challenging conversations with pupils and families
  • Line manage and develop the Attendance Team
  • Work closely with the SENDCo, DSL, and senior leaders to support pupils with complex needs
  • Coordinate responses to lateness and persistent absence, ensuring appropriate support and sanctions
  • Lead on home visits and welfare checks, acting swiftly where concerns arise
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DfE attendance guidance and regulations
  • Support transitions, including Year 7 and in-year admissions
  • Contribute to legal casework where required
  • Promote a positive attendance culture and celebrate attendance success across the academy
  • Provide attendance-related training and guidance to staff

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in an attendance, inclusion, or pastoral role
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong ability to analyse data and drive practical solutions
  • Confidence in working with families and students
  • Experience in leading and managing a team
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
  • Ability to hold courageous conversations with professionalism and empathy

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of DfE attendance policies and procedures
  • Experience with multi-agency working and safeguarding
  • Experience in supporting vulnerable learners and those at risk of persistent absence
  • Experience in training and developing staff
