The Opportunity:

As a School Counsellor, you will support secondary-aged students in navigating emotional and wellbeing challenges. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through innovative approaches such as art-based therapy or animal-assisted interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and psychological support to students in a safe and confidential environment
  • Develop and implement creative counselling techniques tailored to young people
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to promote mental health and wellbeing
  • Maintain accurate records and manage student caseloads effectively
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities
  • Promote a positive school climate through mental health awareness initiatives
  • Build trusting relationships with students and contribute to their personal growth
  • Support students in developing resilience and coping strategies

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with young people
  • Good organisational skills for managing student caseloads
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Willingness to learn and adapt counselling techniques for the school setting

Preferred

  • Experience in school counselling or youth mental health support
  • Training or qualifications in counselling, psychology, or related fields
  • Experience with art-based therapy or other non-traditional therapeutic approaches
  • Background in working with diverse student populations
