The Opportunity:
As a School Counsellor, you will support secondary-aged students in navigating emotional and wellbeing challenges. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact through innovative approaches such as art-based therapy or animal-assisted interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional and psychological support to students in a safe and confidential environment
- Develop and implement creative counselling techniques tailored to young people
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to promote mental health and wellbeing
- Maintain accurate records and manage student caseloads effectively
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities
- Promote a positive school climate through mental health awareness initiatives
- Build trusting relationships with students and contribute to their personal growth
- Support students in developing resilience and coping strategies
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Ability to build trust and rapport with young people
- Good organisational skills for managing student caseloads
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Willingness to learn and adapt counselling techniques for the school setting
Preferred
- Experience in school counselling or youth mental health support
- Training or qualifications in counselling, psychology, or related fields
- Experience with art-based therapy or other non-traditional therapeutic approaches
- Background in working with diverse student populations
