The Opportunity:

As a School Librarian, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a vibrant and inclusive library environment that supports teaching, learning, and a lifelong love of reading. You will collaborate with teachers, students, and parents to ensure the library remains a central hub for academic success, curiosity, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the school library as a central hub for learning, research, and reading for pleasure.
  • Curate and maintain a diverse and up-to-date collection of physical and digital resources aligned with the British curriculum.
  • Oversee cataloguing, classification, and circulation systems to ensure efficient library operations.
  • Manage the library budget, including procurement of books, digital resources, and subscriptions.
  • Create an engaging and inclusive library environment that encourages student use and independent learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum delivery through appropriate library resources and research guidance.
  • Deliver library orientation sessions and teach information literacy, research skills, and digital literacy across year groups.
  • Promote reading for pleasure through book recommendations, displays, and targeted support for different reading abilities and interests.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a school library, preferably within a British or international school setting.
  • Experience supporting the British curriculum and promoting literacy across key stages.
  • Familiarity with library management systems and digital learning resources.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection requirements in an educational setting.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies, Information Management, English, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing reading programmes, clubs, and competitions to foster a love of literature.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students, staff, and parents.
