The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Second in Charge of Science to join a high-performing department and support the Head of Department in leading the Science team. The role offers the opportunity to shape curriculum quality, improve teaching standards, and enhance student outcomes across all key stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Department in leading and developing a high-performing Science team.
- Deliver high-quality Science teaching from Key Stage 3 to 5, serving as a model of good practice.
- Promote and implement curriculum development strategies to ensure strong scientific foundations for GCSE and A Level.
- Work closely with colleagues to drive improvements in teaching standards and student achievement.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and support the Catholic values and ethos of the institution.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Science staff in line with departmental and whole-school priorities.
- Ensure that all Science provision aligns with the school’s mission and vision for student success.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular learning and student engagement.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong subject knowledge in Science with experience teaching across Key Stages 3 to 5.
- Proven ability to lead and support a Science department in a school setting.
- Commitment to Catholic values and a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in curriculum development and the promotion of high teaching standards.
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership role within a Science department.
- Familiarity with Ofsted standards and school improvement processes.
- Experience with pastoral care and student support.
- Experience in driving academic outcomes and student achievement.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
